Kimberly’s Cauldron Slow Simmered Success
I, Kimberly Gibson (Nelson), was born in Hood River and grew up in Hood River, The Dalles, Dufur, and Mosier. I have loved cooking since a young age but never imagined it would lead to anything significant. My primary focus was always on feeding my family—my three amazing kids and my husband—along with various family members who were often “forced” to try my cooking over the years.
Several years ago, my sister opened a café in White Salmon. When my youngest child was in high school, I returned to The Gorge to help my sister during Covid when she was short-staffed. That’s when I discovered something incredible: total strangers actually enjoyed my cooking! What an amazing realization!
When my sister made the difficult decision to close her café, she encouraged me to open a food truck—and that’s how Kimberly’s Cauldron LLC was born in The Dalles. As business picked up, my oldest daughter, Savannah, came to my rescue. We had so much fun together, but we quickly realized we were limited by the rules and codes that come with operating a mobile food unit. That led us to make the decision to open a brick-and-mortar location.
It’s been a challenging few months filled with lessons about contractor work, but we’re excited to announce that The Cauldron Cafe will officially open on Valentine’s Day 2025 at 1810 Cascade Avenue in Hood River.
A note about parking: Yes, the parking lot is small—it always has been—but it’s free! We encourage customers who want to stay a while to park in the large lot nearby. Our employees won’t be taking up customer spaces. Initially, it will just be Savannah and me running the café, so we kindly ask for your patience as we get everything dialed in.
Why the name “Cauldron”? Because I LOVE soup! We plan to launch a soup club and will offer a variety of soup options for fellow soup lovers.
We can’t wait to see you all!

Hours: Currently the hours are 7am to 3pm Friday through Tuesday. Closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Menu: Menu items can change even on a daily basis such as soup of the day and other minor items but there is a steady menu as well, which includes breakfast items such as smoothies, croissants, breakfast bowls, and coffee and tea. Soups are always on the menu but the soups can be changed and varied. All of the items I have tried have been delicious and well worth the price and money I paid for them. I can tell the ingredients are high quality and the food is cooked in house. The inside is well kept and clean.
See below for a few pictures of the menu:

Apologies for the blurry picture I may try to get more later.
